Crawl Back In - With Fractured Lips you Cursed Me Goodbye

...and here is the first CBI recording. Lovely stuff it is too!

Crawl Back In - Hang all hope from the nearest tree

For those who wondered whatever happened to Peet who used to sing for Narcosis, Hard To Swallow and Red Right Hand amongst others, well, wonder no more. A few months back I happened across this awesome Swedish band and low and behold, this is what he is up to now. Not so grindy are his escapades anymore, more atmospheric, riffy, epic, but still fantastic... First up, here is 'Hang all hope from the nearest tree'...

CBI website with their stuff all for free download as well

Addaura - Addaura demo 2010

Utterly stupendous atmospheric black metal from newcomers Addaura, from Washington. Along the lines of Wolves in the Throne Room and all that jazz. These lot need to do another recording soon. Can't believe this is being called / classed as a 'demo'!!!

Esoteric - Subconscious_Dissolution_Into_The_Continuum

THIS is the beastiest doom band of them all. No argument. I don't even care if 'beastiest' is a word or not, I'm using it! It can't possibly get heavier than these and remain coherent and still atmospheric. Absolutely crushing stuff here, the first song is more oppressive and more overwhelming than most band's entire discographies, and just keeps on crushing and battering and overpowering, even once it has you in submission, it doesn't care. It just keeps on going.

Breach - It's Me God

breach are up there with the best of em in the neurosis / isis / cult of luna stakes, not saying that they are the best three, in fact, only neurosis would make it in my top dozen or so in this style, but easier mentioning them guys so you know what we're talking about.

this swedish lot started out a bit more hardcore with 'that' swedish guitar sound, in the vein of refused, nine, entombed, but then disappeared for a bit, and came back all epic n stuff. still sounding essentially like breach, but, bigger, better, more intense, and, well, this album fully does it for me! put 'celestial' back on the shelf, leave it there, in fact hide it behind something else, and listen to this instead.

i saw the line up of breach, entombed and neurosis at bradford rio's a number of years back, it was a monster! did a quick search around, october 2nd 1997 it was. sometimes i am glad to be old!

(alternative version of the cover, never seen this one before, the cd i had was the white cover)

Catacombs - In The Depths Of R'lyeh

if you like ultra awesome doom like esoteric, then you have to listen to catacombs. monumental riffs, crushing atmospheres, utter catharsis. don't miss out on these.

Boris with Merzbow - Megatone

these two have done a number of collaborations, and megatone wins for me. this put my brain back onto a different state of consciousness the first time i listened to it. let it do the same to you.

Boris - Amplifier Worship

boris are awesome, and this is them at their fuzzed out doomy sludgy best, and the frog has got breasts!

Amesoeurs - Self Titled

Currently riding the wave of shoegaze-black-metal (as IF that works, seriously! I'd never have believed that combination would work until I heard it, and loved it!), here is Amesoeurs, one of the best, sadly defunct. Get this for some beautiful dark music.

The Construct - Titan EP

The Construct Myspace

4 songs from new Manchester based band The Construct, that they've posted up for free download on their Facebook group. Ex/current members of I Remain, Magpyes, Machiavellian and more come together to bring us 36 minutes of top class, atmospheric metal, very much in the Neurosis, Isis, Cult Of Luna vein with tinges of Tool, Will Haven and such like also. Get involved in this!

ire - i discern an overtone of tragedy in your voice

This should have been posted up ages ago. Very difficult to find four track EP that came out around the same time as Isis's only really good record 'The Mosquito Control' EP and it was better than them even then. They also did a quality album which I'll upload shortly too, but, if you're into your old Isis, Cult Of Luna, Neurosis and all that jazz, then get on this immediately. More akin to bands like Abandon, but good known reference points I guess.

Absolutely pummelingly harsh soundscapes, BIIIIIIIG riffs (bigger than most of the bands who are in that vein of whatever-post-bullshit-term-ism it is you want to brand it), and utterly disturbing vocals. I've put doom and sludge in the tags because I think fans of those styles will dig this the most.

Also, here's a cool picture I found whilst searching (almost to no avail) for a cover scan!

salome - salome

so, you've probably all read the interviews with agoraphobic nosebleed now they have a girl singer and sound more like a metal band than grind (although i still like their latest stuff, i can see why a lot don't), well, here is the doom sludge band she originated in, and if you like anything slow, then you NEED this. absolutely HUGE!

schattenheer - schattenheer

so, there's loads of depressing black metal, it makes me smile, and this one makes me smile almost as much as make a change kill yourself. it's brilliant!

philip glass - koyaanisqatsi

koyaanisqatsi, the film was a bit of a revelation in visuals, the music that goes along with it is just inspired. if you've never seen this film / imagery collection, get it watched. it changed my brain when i was a youngster!

philip glass - glassworks (extended)

immense classical film score style noodlings.

isole - throne of void

and here is the fourth installment of mighty Isole releases.
tell me you love this!

isole - silent ruins

and yet more... stop it you're spoiling us!

isole - bliss of solitude

so, if you like doom metal, and haven't heard isole, then, stop what you're doing, download these four albums. some absolutely immense riffs, bleak but somehow uplifting moods. they know how to rock out (a bit) but mostly it's on the slow side, not utterly slow like esoteric or catacombs, but get your ears on these!

isole - forevermore

more lovely isole tunes.

bergraven - dodsvisioner

stunning, epic, atmospheric progressive norwegian black metal, brilliant album that you can get totally lost in.
