Pantera - Domination - Classical cover on piano

And if Carcass wasn't enough for you... how about 'Domination' by Pantera. Well dramatic.

VKGOESWILD's page on Youtube, all manner of stuff on there...

Carcass - Corporeal Jigsore Quandary - Classical Version on Piano

As good a cover version of anything you'll ever get, and should totally dispell the myth that death metal isn't a true form of highly gifted musicianship. This is immense, and the solos are bang on too!

Genius!

VKGOESWILD's page on Youtube, all manner of stuff on there...

Captain Beefheart (belated-RIP) - Old Grey Whistle Test 1974 - Live Video

Here to download (click the Mediafire link as ever at the bottom), is a video of 'This is the day' from The Old Grey Whistle Test.

The best story that makes me like and appreciate Beefheart even more, as much as any of the actual recordings would, is on HERE, where it says 'The last Magic Band drummer, Cliff Martinez, now a film soundtrack composer, was once given a cassette of drum parts to learn, which turned out to be a recording of Beefheart and his wife washing up after dinner. Somehow he managed to approximate this "percussive activity".'

What more do you need?! Revolutionary, insane, genius. Sadly missed.

Who Dies In Siberian Slush - Bitterness Of The Years That Are Lost

So, I only discovered these yesterday, but listening now for the fourth time in 16 hours. Absolutely magnificent 'funeral doom' from Russia, along the lines of Esoteric, Catacombs, Torture Wheel and the like, but a little less overpowering and all consuming. Maybe with a few hints of early Anathema and My Dying Bride for want of better, less monolithic style comparisons. This is still pretty monstrous, bigger fans of the style could probably give more exacting comparisons, but, hopefully that'll give you a vague picture and you'll download...

Their Website
Myspace

... and then, buy this album! This is their first one, and hopefully this will help their word be spread a lot quicker, as they deserve to be known on a worldwide scale to all your doomers!

It might be a BIT gothic for some folks. There's pianos! Oooo! There are some awesome harmonies and gut wrenching passages in this, so, doom on.

Internal Suffering - Chaotic Matrix

I saw Internal Suffering at Obscene Extreme a few years back. Granted I was raging mad and utterly smashed in, but I'd waited years to see these, and it was one of THE most intense things I've ever witnessed.

Look at them...

...this is a band that I actually believe would kill people.

Completely insane, hyper blasting, hyper riffing brutal death metal from Columbia. That line alone should give you some idea of the pure ferocity this lot spew out.

Profile:- Cyvoid - Leeds based thrash 'supergroup'!

Cyvoid plays thrash metal that alloys meaty Metallica-style riffs and Voivod-ish math weirdness with the raw energy of bands like S.O.D. and D.R.I. Based in Leeds and featuring current and ex-members of The Plight, Send More Paramedics, Antares and End to Empires, Cyvoid packs a killer punch live and is primed to burn down a stage near you. Cyvoid EP is out soon on Thirty Days of Night.

Ocular Fornication - EP

This is a studio project featuring Bond (Morkret, Diascorium) and Wellsy (Kastrated, Reth, Morkret) from a few years ago. This is the first time (to my knowledge) that these songs have ever been made available to download, so, get them whilst they're new. Technical death metal for your ears, and there are a couple of riffs that have been 'taken back' for Diascorium purposes.

Fans of Gorgasm, Visceral Bleeding, Viral Load, Putrid Pile, Insidious Decrepancy and similar should get this.

David C Bond - Guitars, Vocals, Drum Programming, Songwriting
Matt Wells - Guitars, Drum Programming, Songwriting.

A very young looking Bond and Wells.

Pan - 3 track Demo EP 1

So, here we have a new project, out of Leeds, singularly Ed Seymour, under the pseudonym of Pan. These are the first three songs released for public consumption, and may I say, they're pretty damn good. Each song has its own identity but all work well as a full set too. Massive old school black metal leanings, with Celtic Frost, Darkthrone, early Burzum being involved in the sonic make up, but also, hints of evil hardcore band Integrity bounds up every so often and stabs you in the face, especially akin to their 'Systems Overload' album.

Give this a go. Word on the streets of Leeds is that there is already a line up pieced together (some faces you will recognise from other bands), so hopefully this will continue the fine uprising of new UK black metal bands on the live circuit.

Come and have a go if you think you're kvlt enough.

Kataleptic - Two EPs in One Go.

Here's a bunch of young Midlanders bringing some quality old school death metal battery to your ears. Diascorium recently played with these in Wakefield and they were excellent, and here are half a dozen songs from two recordings that I got from their ReverbNation page. If you use that site, head on over and tell them where you heard their recordings.

Those of you who like Cannibal Corpse, Bolt Thrower, Unleashed, Prostitute Disfigurement and old Hypocrisy etc. will get plenty out of these guys. Keep an eye out for them.

Foetal Juice - 2010 EP

For some reason, this didn't appear at the time of posting, so, it resided in draft status for quite a few months... well, now I can rectify that, and make it a new post at the top... Fans of crusty, grindy, old schooly deathy metal should definitely get this, and even more so, check out Foetal Juice when they play live. Outstanding band.

Stairland - Shapeless

There should be way more about this band on the internet, but, there is pretty much nothing at all. I got sent this EP about 8 or 9 years ago for review on the Raw Nerve site (now defunct), and as a fan of Meshuggah I loved it instantly. Fans need to hear this, but there is something completely unique about this, the crunching riffs mixed with drum and bass sections, just weird ideas all over the place.

They disbanded in 2004, and there is just this and one other recording called 'Chung' available by them, what a huge shame.

Internet searches revealed very little information about the band at all, so revel in this one folks, this is pure underground heaviness! I despite the term Djent, but, if ever there was something that deserved the label, it's this monster!

Here is a picture that I would name The Land Of Stairs...

Mucofloris - EP Demo

For those of you that know of My Cross To Bare (and you most definitely should), they are now RIP'd, but 4/5ths have carried on to make Mucofloris. Ultra technical metallic hardcore grinding immensities. This is just a 3 track taster from 2009, they have a new one, it may end up on here, but in the meantime, you should head to their myspace and get listening... Watch out for lots of MCTB releases, and a total unreleased exclusive album on this very blog soon.

Foul Body Autopsy - EP

So, here is solo man Tom Reynolds under the guise of Foul Body Autopsy, a mint five song EP that he's shared with all, that has a quality production as well as some top riffs, ideas and twiddlings. The most obvious major influence comes from Necrophagist, but you get some Beneath The Massacre, Death, Origin, and a few hints of deathcore related bands in there too, to mosh it all up a bit.

Recently played a gig with him in Manchester, supporting Prostitute Disfigurement and he was class... so, get listening and supporting. As ever, if YOU like this sort of thing, and know folks who would like it, TELL THEM, please spread the word of great artists letting their music be heard for free.

-----------------------

We're proud to announce our first gig of 2011, and it's set to be another belter with four of the UK's best up and comers.

LATITUDES burst on to the scene last year with their incredible album 'Agonist' which got rave reviews across the board and are set to become even more of a force with the potential addition of a full time vocalist. For fans of Neurosis / Hydrahead / Cult of Luna / Cavity.

HAMMERS from Manchester are another band rapidly making a name for themselves with a constant hard work ethic and a few quality releases and splits. A spot on mix of fast and slow, if you like His Hero is Gone you'll be well into this.

DIET PILLS play excellent slow horrible sludgy stuff in the vein of Eyehategod, Corrupted, Noothgrush and all that good stuff. Absolutely quality band.

MORE THAN A JOKE open proceedings with a nice bit of fast noisy discordant hardcore. Fans of Graf Orlock, Some Girls, Ed Gein etc will be highly entertained.

First band on at around 8 - FREE Entry, come get drunk, be merry, good times.

Behold, the rebirth of our blog.

To an extent anyway...

Have decided it was a bit rubbish putting in all the work, getting this place pretty full, and busy, and getting links on lots of other blogs, and then just letting it die, so, after some ludicrously high voltage electrical shots to the heart, The Knowledge Of Sound blogspot have had some life revived back into it, and there will be, albeit sporadic, a commencement of posting on here.

Too much good stuff to not get spread around.

So,
hello again.
