My Cross To Bare - Entire Discography (3 EPs, 2 albums, 1 never released)

One of my favourite UK bands, and one of my worldwide favourite '-core' bands. Forget what deathcore is about these days, this is the real deal. My Cross To Bare were the band that (mostly) went on to become Mucofloris, and were harsher, heavier, slammier, and more crushing than most bands that would be considered heavier etc by genre definition. They were going a long while, and I put them on for a few gigs 'back in the day' when Tangaroa first started, and bands like Beecher, Narcosis, Unsanctum, Madman Is Absolute and all that were doing their earlier rounds as well. Absolutely sound people, and knew how to write crushingly heavy songs.



Their last recording 'Embolus' was supposed to be coming out on Siege of Amida Records, but never did as they split up before it made it. For anyone who heard 'Lex Talionis' in all its splendorous, slaughterous glory, then make sure you don't miss this absolute exclusive posting of this previously unreleased stormer of an album. Also, in the same file are the first 3 EPs / demos that MCTB recorded, all littered with monstrous riffs and awesome songs.

Mucofloris - EP Demo

For those of you that know of My Cross To Bare (and you most definitely should), they are now RIP'd, but 4/5ths have carried on to make Mucofloris. Ultra technical metallic hardcore grinding immensities. This is just a 3 track taster from 2009, they have a new one, it may end up on here, but in the meantime, you should head to their myspace and get listening... Watch out for lots of MCTB releases, and a total unreleased exclusive album on this very blog soon.

Ekkaia - Sombras Del Progreso

Absolutely highest quality emotional dark crustified hardcore style stuffs. Ekkaia are actually one of the best bands of this genre I think.

Drumcorps - Grist

Completely insane electronic cut up remixing of things like Botch, Converge and more. If you like those sort of bands, and also love things like Venetian Snares, then this may be your favourite thing ever.

deadguy - Fixation On A Coworker

Angry! Absolute pure, unadulterated anger. This sect of musicians have been involved in some of the most revolutionary, vicious, scene altering sounds. Deadguy, Kiss It Goodbye, Rorschach, Human Remains, then the tree sprouts off in directions including Discordance Axis, Burnt By The Sun and such like.

I remember my mate Miggy coming round with this album on vinyl, simply saying 'You're going to love this!', and within about 10 seconds of hearing the first earth shattering riffs, I did! What a record. This is pure catharsis. If you're in a good mood, this will kill it. This will make you hate everything around you. This will make you feel alive.

Some of the harshest, most disturbing sounds commited to record are on this album.

Deformity - Misanthrope

This is one of the records that totally changed the hardcore scene, especially the straight edge one, and the shame is that most people won't even know who Deformity are, and if they do, they may not even know this EP! Criminal.

So, this is deathcore. This is how it SHOULD sound. Yes, it's death metal, thrashy, hardcore related, but it's not deathcore in the sense that folks know it now with all the single handed, chugga chugga nonsense, breakdowns that are thrown in that don't make sense, and generic, boring, over played riffs that Dying Fetus came up with in the practice room and decided to ditch.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a total hater of the style. I haven't jumped on the alternative band wagon that is against it all just because it's labelled so. There are tons of awesome releases that people and their blinkeredness will miss out on, but, hey, that's their loss I guess.

Anyway, this one. Belgian death thrash hardcore stuff. Absolutely mint riff fest, and all the things they did after, which got even more deathly, are very much required listening, but, get your ears around this.

Profile - Canaya - Leeds based scuzzy tech monsters

Canaya are a new-ish Leeds band, made up of ex and current members of Tangaroa, Imposters, Dragged Into Sunlight, Hot Prophecy, Executive Distraction Tasks, Year Of The Man and more... Get involved if you're into Coalesce, Nostromo, Knut, Burnt By The Sun and the like. Go see them when they play near you.

Breach - It's Me God

breach are up there with the best of em in the neurosis / isis / cult of luna stakes, not saying that they are the best three, in fact, only neurosis would make it in my top dozen or so in this style, but easier mentioning them guys so you know what we're talking about.

this swedish lot started out a bit more hardcore with 'that' swedish guitar sound, in the vein of refused, nine, entombed, but then disappeared for a bit, and came back all epic n stuff. still sounding essentially like breach, but, bigger, better, more intense, and, well, this album fully does it for me! put 'celestial' back on the shelf, leave it there, in fact hide it behind something else, and listen to this instead.

i saw the line up of breach, entombed and neurosis at bradford rio's a number of years back, it was a monster! did a quick search around, october 2nd 1997 it was. sometimes i am glad to be old!

artimus pyle - fucked from birth

If you like your crust stuffs, and you HAVEN'T heard this, then it's time to get your head out of the sewer and get educated with this, actually one of the finest crust / dark hardcore releases aside from His Hero Is Gone.

ire - i discern an overtone of tragedy in your voice

This should have been posted up ages ago. Very difficult to find four track EP that came out around the same time as Isis's only really good record 'The Mosquito Control' EP and it was better than them even then. They also did a quality album which I'll upload shortly too, but, if you're into your old Isis, Cult Of Luna, Neurosis and all that jazz, then get on this immediately. More akin to bands like Abandon, but good known reference points I guess.

Absolutely pummelingly harsh soundscapes, BIIIIIIIG riffs (bigger than most of the bands who are in that vein of whatever-post-bullshit-term-ism it is you want to brand it), and utterly disturbing vocals. I've put doom and sludge in the tags because I think fans of those styles will dig this the most.

acrid - Eighty-Sixed

straight edge black metalcore? well, not far off..
canadian band acrid have one of the most downright filthy, disgusting, harsh sounds that kicked about in the general hardcore scene many years back.

When the likes of earth crisis, poison the well, integrity and snapcase were doing bigger and more mainstream things, this was bubbling and gurgling and sickening folks beneath the surface. everything goes on this album, from ultra disturbing black metal in the shape of the mighty 'kisses & whistles' to various techno breaks and monstrous hardcore breakdowns, blasts and inhuman vocal weirdness. hurrah!





oh, and if you want this to be made even cooler and worth checking out.. members of acrid have also been involved with cursed, left for dead, the swarm, chokehold, grade and more! have at ye!

a warm gun - Panic In The Face Of Time

and, so, here is the other AWG release, bit more shouty, bit better production on the whole, so if you like yer fastcore hardcore punkcore corecorecore whatever, this is much fun, in an angry shouty screamy kinda way. the best kind of fun!

a warm gun - Escape

not many folks know of A Warm Gun, but they should, some quality hardcore punk tunes on their releases. this is the lesser harsh of their two releases, but still a goodie.

shikari - discography 1999-2003

i saw shikari whilst touring europe with narcosis a couple of times, they were blinding. get this discography if you like things discordant, fast, harsh, weird, screamy, shrieky.

drainland - swine

dark irish hardcore with some doom and sludge to boot. can't argue with that. there is a fine tradition of bands from ireland that play the nasty very well, and drainland are one worth watching. if you like dystopia and the usual his hero is gone / cursed / from ashes rise ensembles then give this your attention.

quicksand - manic compression

i forgot about this album for years. i am a fool! if you like things along the lines of helmet, fugazi, shellac and all that, then you should check these out.

perth express - harrow and wealdstone

so, his hero is gone pretty much set the benchmark for this dark crustcore style, and perth express are better than many of the followers. if you've not heard them before, but like this stuff, then, you'll soon see...

kylesa - tensions

out of the current bands doing this sort of thing, i, now, think that kylesa are about the best. took me a while to fully get into them, but, especially now that mastodon have turned pretty poor, this album makes up for it.

daughters - daughters

so, is this REALLY the daughters or the jesus lizard? well. okay, so it's not the jesus lizard, but it's probably the closest thing you will find! amazingly. compare their first album thing, 'canada songs' to this and you'll remain in disbelief that it's the same band, but, give this one a chance if you love the other one, because this is a grower, addictive, and utterly immense.

umlaut - totalfuckingdiscography

members of catharsis playing faster, more straight forward hardcore stuff, but still ace.
